Gelco Chimney Cap & Crown Nationwide

Every visit starts with

Level 1 sweep and inspection to the NFPA 211 annual standard - flue, crown, cap, and flashing checked and photographed

Worth knowing

Chimney sweep logs do not sweep chimneys. They loosen some creosote - which then falls where a brush and vacuum still have to collect it.

Gelco Chimney Cap & Crown in Natick: What to Know First

Gelco chimney cap and crown work in Natick starts with an honest look at what you actually have on top of that flue. We’re an independent Gelco service provider - not a factory arm - and most Gelco cap or crown jobs around here run between $180 and $640 depending on what failed and how much of it needs replacing. We normally knock this out in one visit, and the number you hear on the phone is the number on the invoice.

This page is for Gelco owners in Natick who want a straight answer before they spend a dollar. If you own a Gelco cap that’s rusting, lifting, or letting water into the chimney, or a crown that’s spalling apart, call (781) 378-5846 and we’ll tell you what you’re looking at. No pressure, no mystery quote.

How Gelco Products Fail - and How We Fix Them

Gelco makes a solid cap. But New England winters have a way of finding the weak spot in anything that sits on a chimney. Here’s what we see on Gelco work in Natick:

  • Gelco stainless caps with the welded mesh screen pulling loose. The cap body holds up, but the screen corners let go after enough freeze-thaw cycles. Rain gets in, birds follow. We reweld or replace the screen and seal the corners so it doesn’t happen again next spring.
  • Gelco multi-flue caps sized for the flue but not the crown. This one shows up a lot in older colonials near Natick Center. The cap covers the flues fine, but the crown underneath was already cracked, and water pools between the cap legs and the mortar. The fix isn’t just a new cap - it’s addressing the crown slope so water sheds instead of sitting.
  • Galvanized Gelco caps on wood-burning flues rusting out early. If the cap is galvanized and you burn regularly, the creosote acids eat at the metal faster than on a gas flue. We replace with stainless and seal the seams - and we’ll tell you plainly if staying galvanized makes sense for a gas-only flue.
  • Crowns cracked from Gelco cap legs bolted too tight. Some installers crank the bolts and split the mortar crown. The cap looks fine, but water is getting down the crack and into the brick. We pull the cap, repair the crown with a proper slope, and remount the cap without over-torquing it.
  • Older Gelco caps where the rain diverter baffle has corroded off. Once the baffle goes, rain blows sideways into the flue liner under the cap. You won’t see it from the ground. We find it on camera, then replace the cap or add a replacement baffle where the cap body is still sound.

Our Gelco Chimney Cap & Crown Process

Here’s how a Gelco job goes when you call Top Hat Chimney:

  1. 1
You call, a person answers. Day or night. We talk through what you’re seeing, and you get a straight price range before anyone leaves the shop.
  2. 2
We get on the roof and look. Not from the ground with binoculars. Wendell or one of the crew walks the roof and sees exactly what the cap and crown are doing.
  3. 3
Camera goes down the flue if water or critters are suspected. You see the footage. We don’t recommend anything you can’t see for yourself.
  4. 4
Parts decision. If the Gelco cap is salvageable with a screen or baffle repair, we say so. If it needs replacing, we quote OEM where it matters and good stainless aftermarket where it doesn’t - and we explain the difference.
  5. 5
The repair. Cap replaced or rebuilt, crown patched or re-sloped. We’re careful with the crown so the new cap seats properly.
  6. 6
The test and the promise. We check fit, seal, and water shed before we climb down. Then you get the 90-Day Done Right Promise in writing. If it’s not right, one call brings us back, no charge.

What Gelco Chimney Cap & Crown Costs in Natick

Straight numbers, because that’s how we do it:

  • Gelco cap replacement, single flue: $180-$320 installed
  • Gelco multi-flue cap replacement: $280-$520 depending on span and crown condition
  • Crown repair with slope correction: $200-$400
  • Crown rebuild (larger, badly spalled crowns): $450-$640
  • Cap and crown together: $380-$780, and you’ll typically save versus doing them separately

What moves the price: roof pitch and access, crown condition, whether the flue needs a screen replacement while we’re up there, and whether it’s a standard Gelco size or something custom. You’ll get a firm number before work starts, not after. Call (781) 378-5846 for a free estimate.

Why Natick Homeowners Call Top Hat Chimney for Gelco Work

We’ve been driving out to Natick and the surrounding towns since 1999. Wendell Pike put his name and license on this company, and he still answers the phone half the time. Your Gelco job isn’t being handed to a franchise crew that rotated in from another state - it’s the same local sweep who’s worked these older colonials and capes for over two decades.

Every Gelco cap or crown job gets the 90-Day Done Right Promise in writing. If it’s not right, one call and we’re back. We also work with DuraFlex and HeatShield, so if your liner or chase has issues alongside the cap, we can handle the whole job in one trip instead of bouncing you between contractors. And we’ll tell you when work can wait. If it does not need doing, we’ll tell you.
